An ardent hiker, rider and professed outdoor enthusiast, Root often expresses how a good ride, a new place with a new experiences and nature’s inspirations keeps him on the move toward another vista. Southern California provided Root easy access to coastal and mountain venues and was the launching pad to a successful path in sports as a professional Volleyball player. He ascended quickly through the high school athletic ranks and matriculated to Stanford University. Root excelled at Stanford University and became a three-time All-American athlete while completing degree work in Economics and Political Science. He was elected in 2003 to the Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame. Root played for USA Volleyball from 1986 to 1990 and earned a Gold Medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. He played volleyball professionally in the Italian Volleyball Federation and the American Beach Volleyball League. Root worked in a marketing capacity at two Olympic Games after his retirement from professional volleyball. Root's descriptive adventures touch on biking through Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park, trekking throughout Southeast Asia, mountaineering to the peak of Mt. Whitney, backpacking in the Wind River Range, and hiking and biking the Pacific Northwest trails. Root lives in Carmel, CA and balances his time between the real estate profession and as the Chief Performance Engineer with Sports Performance U. His interests include hosting informal dinner parties, landscaping, a good road trip, running with his dog Red, and of course, all-day beach volleyball gatherings during summer. Root can be reached by e-mail. My backyard is: |
