GU Energy Performance Sampler

The day is new and you hop out of bed determined to get through a long road ride. A few crank turns into the ride, you feel the sun pelting the back of your neck. It's early but you know that you are in for a sweat filled ride and will have to keep your energy levels up. Failure to do so can leave you convalescing on the couch for the rest of the day after your ride.

GU, a Berkley, California based company, produces sports energy consumables geared towards prepping you for hot and humid rides. One of the newer products is the GU Performance Energy Sampler.

The Performance Energy Sampler has:
  • 9 GU Energy Gels
  • 3 Roctane Gels
  • 2 Chomps Packets
  • 2 GU Electrolyte Brew Packets
  • 1 GU Recovery Brew Packet

The Performance Energy Sampler was put to the test on an unusually hot day for the Pedal Pittsburgh. The pack supplied the right combination for optimum energy through the entire ride. An energy shot from a GU Roctane Gel was the right pre-cursor to the ride. Then throughout, nibbling on the Chomps kept the sprockets turning. Two-thirds through, sucking down one of GU's original energy gels helped bring it home. Drinking a Recovery Brew then during the cool down to helped recuperate.

The overall mix of all of the GU products helps for several endurance events and activities. The most pleasant surprise was the taste of the GU products, especially their gel products. The Jet Blackberry and the Orange Burst were tasty and didn't need chased with water.

GU LogoThe GU Performance Energy Sampler gives several options to keep your energy level up. It also comes with a reduced price tag for the large quantity of GU products that you received. GU lists the Performance Energy Sampler at $30.
