A teaser of the upcoming movie, 127 Hours, is being shown at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. I was one of the first to see it on the eve of the convention.

The story is about Aaron Ralston and his tragic five day ordeal while mountaineering in Blue John Canyon near Moab, Utah in 2003. While canyoneering, a boulder dislodged itself and trapped Ralston’s right arm against the rock wall. Ralston amputated the lower half of his own arm with a knife to free himself. Ralston then had to fight the immense pain and the trek ahead to receive emergency assistance.

127 Hours is scheduled for release in November 2010 and James Franco will play the part of Ralston. The Director from Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle, is directing 127 Hours. Fox Searchlight is looking for other life-changing and death-defying stories at 127 Defining Moments website. Chosen stories will be shared and used to promote the release of the film.

The sneak peek that I saw definitely wet my appetite for the film. It depicted Ralston biking into the Blue John Canyon area and the incredible confidence that he has in canyoneering and mountaineering. The preview ended when his arm becomes trapped and, he begins to self amputates. The preview was only a few minutes but it showed a riveting capsule of the mental and physical challenges Ralston endured.
