New to the shelves for 2010 is the Kayland Legend Rev, a low-cut hiking shoe geared for day tripping on the trails. The Legend Rev feature an eVent Cocona membrane, EVA midsole, and Vibram outsole. Kayland touts the shoe as being waterproof and very breathable.
From the minute you slip on the Legend Rev you can feel the difference. The mid and outer sole provides ample support and gripping power. The lugs are patterned to adapt to multiple surfaces firmly and kept the slippage to a minimum on the multiple excursions during extensive testing.
They are comparatively light to other low-cut hiking shoes even after long hours on the trail and did not cause any blistering fresh out of the box. Kayland does not overlook minute details with the Legend Rev. The tongue is integrated directly to the upper of the shoe giving greater precision for lacing and results in a proper fit.
The anterior of your foot will feel the benefits of the integrated upper design with a fit that is never too tight and never too loose. The Kayland Legend Rev will be available in store and on-line in March 2010 and has a suggested retail price of $129.95.
Never to be overlooked in Kayland's footwear line is the high performing Zephyr. The Kayland Zephyr has become the bellwether hiking footwear for Kayland. The Zephyr is designed for longer day hikes and short to medium length backpacking treks.
The Zephyr touts the same eVent Cocona membrane that the Legend Rev sports plus a sturdy upper with a polyurethane ekoskeleton. With extensive wear and tear in the backcountry, the Zephyr lived up to its lofty moniker. Weighed down with a full load, the lightness of the shoe really can be felt by keeping your feet light while thoroughly supported.
The support the Zephyr offers is a sum of its parts. Kayland more than addressed it throughout its design. In conjunction with the ekoskeleton on the upper, the Zephyr integrates sturdy but comfortable heel cup along with an outersole by Vibram. This results in added support for all parts of your foot. The Zephyr can be had for a suggested retail price of $189.95.
The Legend Rev and Zephyr also lived up to their waterproof and wicking features. Water did not permeate either and both wicked perspiration more than adequately.
The Legend Rev and Zephyr carry a higher price point than several of its competitiors. This may be viewed as a negative but is justified since Kayland uses eVent, Cocona and Vibram technologies in the design of each. Each of these technologies is widely considered to be the top in their specialty.
