Space is the final frontier? For a backpacker, the struggle for space within a backpack is a frontier that will never be fully conquered. Gear and apparel is getting lighter and more compact, but you still seem to have an overstuffed pack.

Cocoon by Design Salt AirCore Pillow squeezes down to a small size. Squished into its tiny stuff sack, it weighs a puny 3.7 inches and measures 4 by 3 inches. It inflates with several puffs of air from your mouth into the plastic valve.

The plastic valve twists to locks tightly to keep the pillow inflated. Cocoon has designed the exterior of the AirCore Pillow with a silky gossamer fabric on one side. The opposite side is a soft fleece-like material.

In the race for space, you may forego a pillow and settle for stuffing some clothing into a stuff sack to serve as a backcountry pillow. Ouch, that's uncomfortable and may cause a neck strain. The AirCore Pillow provides the firmness that is needed for a sound sleep on the trails.
