Helly Hansen logoScandinavian-based Helly Hansen previewed the new additions for Spring 2012 at the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market.

North American guide partners, Mountain Madness and H2O Heli Guides, provided input. Their advice – make it even lighter. New products will include a combination of lightweight shells and pants. Two highlights is the Odin Fastpack and Light Softshell Jackets.

Weighing only 242 grams, the 2.5-ply Odin Fastpack Jacket is touted as waterproof and breathable. The roomy pockets double as pit zips and the hood is helmet-compatible.

The lightweight Odin Fastpack makes it easy to stash in a smaller outer pocket on your pack. When inclement weather is on the horizon, slide it on to repel the coming downpour. Check out the video below on the Odin Fastpack.

The Odin Light Softshell is also a new addition for the coming spring season. It’s a heavier jacket than the Odin Fastpack at 560 grams, but it offers higher breathability since it’s a softshell. And Helly Hansen designed it with UPF 30+ protection. A helmet-compatible hood and roomy pockets/pit zips are part of the design.

Even at a weight twice as much as the Odin Fastpack, it’s still on the lighter side. It’s waterproof, so it boasts keeping you dry when the skies crack open with a rain storm.
