KEENEight-year old KEEN is advancing their commitment to the full product lifecycle – design to production – at the 15,000-square-foot Portland Factory. The first product offerings came off the factory’s line in October 2010, and KEEN has recently announced further plans for the facility.

On Swan Island in North Portland, the Portland Factory houses two full production lines. The current staff of fifteen employees produces a pair of KEEN Portland Boots every thirty seconds.

KEEN’s vision is for the space to be more than a manufacturing plant and for it to be used for teaching and learning. The Portland Factory will be a place where customers and community can observe advancing technologies in footwear manufacturing.

New direct injection techniques can be developed and tested onsite. And sustainable manufacturing methods can evolve to reduce petroleum-based cements and enhance energy efficiency.

Thirteen footwear styles are planned to be built by KEEN in Portland. New styles will include casual styles, sandals and work boots. Each will be designed with the Pacific Northwest way of life in mind.
